This decorative stitch works well in one color as well as two. The fastest way to go is to stitch one color to form a framework, then fill in with the other. Take a look at the background in the Needlework Gazette cover to see an interesting single color variation where the alternate squares are stitched in a different direction to give interesting light effects.
