French Knot

The French Knot is a popular way of adding three dimensionality to what might otherwise be too flat a design. It's also great where you're simulating natural elements such as flower parts. The French Knot is easier to stitch than to draw a chart for, or explain. We've seen it done as shown above, where the thread comes up in one hole, the knot created and then down into an adjoining hole, and where the thread comes back in the same hole, with the bulk of the knot holding it in front of the canvas.
