Quilts, Counterpanes, and Throws The Smithsonian's textile collection consists of about 50,000 items, dating from the 17th century to the present time. The artifacts in the Hall of Textiles include the elegant and the ordinary, fabrics domestic and imported, some made by hand, others woven by machine, but all part of the art and industry of textiles.
